Lighter Living Task #9 Curating Photos

Wedding photos

Lighter Living is more than a book. Lighter Living Tasks are weekly suggestions to make progress on decluttering, organizing and simplifying your life. By working on parts of your home each week, you will breaking big projects into small, manageable tasks.

Pictures are easy to take but if not curated, can be a clutter nightmare. If your photo collection is not in a state of organization that would be considered a gift to your loved ones if you died today, you have work to do!

I suggest thinning out your photos to the most precious ones-those that capture special moments in time that you wish to pass down to future generations.

Discard photos of poor quality, duplicates, pictures of people who you can’t remember, old boyfriends/girlfriends, unflattering shots, dull landscapes and so forth.

If you have a lot of photos, this project might take years. My suggestion is to schedule time each week to tackle the curation of your photos until you have well organized albums that will be a treasure to your family. I carve out a few hours each Sunday.

I have created legacy albums for each parent and myself. Now I am thinning out pictures of my daughters and family life. I have also scanned special photos and put them into Google Pictures that can be shared with my family. Sometimes it feels overwhelming and I have to process some grief of bygone eras and losses in my life.

I keep the vision of a gift to my kids after I am gone when I am tempted to quit working on the project. I also pace myself with consistent effort to complete the sorting. The rewards are worth it though as I feel tremendous satisfaction and peace of mind each time I complete an album.

Between tasks posted on this blog, be sure to read Lighter Living if you have not already.

Perhaps the extra time at home will help you get these projects done! Cheers to that! Lisa
